I have othered, and have been othered. It's not something I want to experience again but I suppose it is part of the human condition. I wish we could have a world where we all accepted and helped each other.
So glad this resonated. It's been amazing hearing the feedback on this article today. I think there are so many of us thinking about how to break down walls.
What a gorgeous reminder that we are all so much more alike than we are different. Such an important message to blast out as we step into Recovery month.
Thank you for doing all the work you do 🙏🏼
Oh and I also want to collect all the unattended children at the playgrounds and take them home with me. 😅
This was what I alluded to in the article that somethings are better kept quiet. I believe there is something beautiful about kind acts that no one sees.
I "othered' last night at a county jail volunteer appreciation event. Self imposed or a bit of "the look" when i identified as being a NA member who volunteers. I felt like the black sheep of volunteers. Later, I laughed, later in my car when i realized that the other other I was sitting across from could see my necklace, a small silver charm that says "One day at a fucking time." on it.
We can be both the “other” and put others into labels we have for them, too. Thanks for sharing your experience 🙏🏼I hope today you can feel your value and worth despite how others may view us ❤️🩹

Let’s get to the place where we don’t other, especially for folks in or seeking recovery. ❤️🩹
So many of us are in need of healing, and we can all help to create an environment where healing is possible. Thanks for posting and sharing.

I think so too, Caroline. And it's a worthy goal.
