This Recovery Month, Let’s Talk About What Recovery Really Means
Episode 9 of Circle of Chairs Conversations with Caroline
This week on Circle of Chairs Conversations, I’m diving into something that’s been on my heart as we celebrate Recovery Month, a topic that gets right to the soul of our healing journey. And I’m going to be real with you…this isn’t an easy conversation to have. But it is a necessary one.
In this week’s episode, I debunk a myth that kept me trapped for a long time. Something harmful that was said to me in early recovery.
If you've ever wondered whether your reason for wanting to heal is “good enough”…
If you've been told you have to want recovery just for yourself…
If you’re feeling worn down by the weight of mental health struggles or addiction…
Friend, this conversation is for you.
What Recovery Month Means (and What It Doesn't)
For those who don’t know, Recovery Month is a time to shine a light on the beauty and power of recovery—from addiction, mental health challenges, trauma, disordered eating, and more. It’s about honoring the journey in all its forms and recognizing that healing is a process… not perfection.
In this episode, I’m opening up about:
Why recovery is more than just church basement meetings (though we love those too!)
How physical health, nutrition, mindfulness, and community all play a part in your healing
Why you’re not alone if you struggle with anxiety and depression on this journey
The importance of purpose and giving back—how your story is someone else's survival guide
And… a truth I learned the hard way…
Here’s One of My Favorite Reminders from the Episode:
“My recovery was about more than just me being sober. It was about being able to show up for you. For my community. For the people I’m called to help.”
We don’t trudge this road alone. We can’t. And the beauty is—we’re not supposed to.
P.S. Want to Help Others Heal Too?
I mentioned in the episode a new initiative that’s close to my heart:
The Women’s Recovery Leadership Foundation, created to empower women in recovery to lead with purpose and impact their communities.
